She apparently had an epiphany so the sacrifices should have been null and void. After all of their 'sacrifices', none of the characters were able to have their desired ending which didn't have merit because Mary was supposed to have 'changed' or 'moved on'. I'm sure your mystery would be a more riveting conclusion than the half-hearted attempt by these authors. If I were you, I'd call it day and leave the ending a mystery. I was not sure what direction this was going to take with that, but it did not take the path I thought. If you are struggling to get through the beginning, try to push through as it was worth it to me.I have seen so many people talk about this series, and do not remember anyone saying this deals with the paranormal. I did not realize it was going to cover all of these topics when I gave up on it the first time. This does deal with some series issues such as drugs, bullying, suicide, and rape. I liked learning more around each of our main characters and their stories. I am glad I did.I ended up enjoying this so much more than I was expecting. I own all three books and decided to give it one more try before giving it away. I could not get into it or the high school cattiness. I ended up reading around 50% of the first book and did not finish it. I previously tried to start this series, and I was just not in the mood for it.

This is a great case to show why I usually will try something more than once before giving up on it for good.
